3 Instantly Calming CBT Techniques For Anxiety
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has taken a bit of a bad rap recently with meta-analytical research showing it seems to be getting increasingly less effective in the treatment of depression.
And neuroscience is showing that strong emotions often precede thoughts, so changing thoughts may do little for extreme conditions like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and addictions.
So in this video I seek to give you a sense of the true values and limitations of CBT, and I share 3 CBT techniques for anxiety.
If you are struggling with anxiety, my Overcome Fear and Anxiety session will help you relax, breathe, and soothe anxiety:

Brilliant, thank you, I suffer with tinnitus, learning to teach the alarm brain to let it go. It wont kill me and it won’t hurt, takes time, but eventually it will fade, it will always be there, and in the background, but I can get on with life. The power of the positive thinking.
some of us cannot imagine
THIS IS INTELLIGENCE INSULTING BS THAT ONLY GOES AFTER SYMPTOMS. GFY.
Anxiety controls my life every single day
This kind gentleman’s wise words are very calming and i must say, so is the lovely tree outside of his window, which is wavering gently in the breeze! xxxxx
Best advice I have heard .
What a great video!
Step number 3 helps change the perception of the perceived stressor. Can’t wait to implement this. Thank you
Depression and anxiety is just a negative imaginary feeling and thought. Don’t worry about it because your positive thought and an exercise can change it. Just laugh and take care of yourself and you will be happy and fit forever 😂.
Thank you. It’s so enlightening!
Cock and Ball Torture? I’m in
Yes, but not being liked isn’t the worst that can happen. I fear falling over and getting broken, because it’s happened once, I’m in England, our health service is chaos, my local hospital trust is very poor. A friend who did fall recently ended up in the local hospital, and the care was so poor she had a stroke. Three months later she is still not rehabilitated and can’t manage her life any more. In my mind that is something very real indeed. I’d like to be certain it won’t happen to me!!
Needs comes from the ego my friend
I didn’t realize I’d be opening up and emotional can of worms today, but here I am. It’s a step in the right direction finally.
Do you have recommendations about the suicide ocd and worrying that your future is bleak so you might have to kill yourself? Can the techniques you mentioned be applied to such an anxiety?
Good stuff this
Anxiety is a situation where you try to swim hard but you can’t go out of the water 😢😢

He’s babbling!
Just give us the tips mate…
this is awesome!
i liked this one, thanks
It’s been 11 yrs of anxiety for me. Still a struggle. Thank you for the CBT techniques. I have anxiety that when every little thing in my body has a symptom, I have almost an instant fear of dying. (Not sure if this is actual health anxiety) A headache, an arm pain, stomach pain, numbing in my arm or leg, especially palpitations… any of those I tend to hyper fixate on that symptom and it snowballs in seconds. MRI’s, scans and lab work doesn’t matter. I feel something is going on with all my organs. I’m also on edge when I go out. I feel overwhelmed in the grocery store or malls. I already imagine me passing out and who will help me. I’m constantly catastrophyzing every single thing. It’s a vicious cycle. I’ve had some CBT therapy but I’m still struggling.😔
Thanks a lot 😊😊
What a helpful lecture! Thank you Mark🙏
I can’t count how many times I replayed so as not to miss anything.
You made it easy to understand and interesting!
Helpful video. Thank you.
But the majority of ‘experts’ say you just have to deluge your brain with positive affirmations, preferably also by looking into the mirror at your face as you do it. They say the brain cannot tell whether a comment is true or not, so after a short while it will accept the positive comments as truth.
I think they get the ‘evidence’ for this from brain scan experiments which show that the general public, or monks can change the way their brain works by practice.
All emotional and behavioral responses are preceded by thoughts. it only takes 1/10,000th of 1 second for a nerve impulse to travel through the brain. This I where underlying assumptions and the unconscious mind come into play. Just because you experience a quick emotional reaction without a conscious thought does not mean that thought happened outside of our conscious awareness. This is exactly where underlying assumptions come into play. It’s the repetition of conscious thoughts which allows that thought to be stored in the brain, ready for action. This thought causes a reflexive reaction as a consequence. For example, a thought such as, "Snakes are scary and dangerous," would cause you to have an immediate fearful response since the repetition of said thoughts/ideas happened before your encounter with the snake.
Can i book an online session with you??
I never found CBt or NLP helpful, but hypnosis was completely different 😊
Thanks a lot for this important information ❤
Thank you so much. I am learning these and adding these to my coping mechanism
This is one video that the "Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service" will allow me to watch. Can’t educate myself with info that I wish to know about that may expose painful truths for those that are covering it up.
I get anxiety about this issue. Something I can’t control. Very frustrating. You tube is, fortunately not the only platform, but many are controlling what we research for ourselves.
I have suffered from severe agoraphobia panic attacks anxiety im middle aged now and on medication as well as therapy n it wasnt until about 10yrs ago this type cbt therapy was available or offered in my town exposure therapy is probably the best part i experienced along side of my medication n sadly everytime i try to not be on meds i have way more n severe panic attacks etc
I feel like I just found a treasure. Thank you for your effort and time .
Hello. I thoroughly enjoyed your 3 ways to chase away anxiety. They really were very impressive, logical and true. Am a victim of these thoughts and just listening to you, has given me immense hope to deal with these thoughts of fear and danger. Thank you Mark.
I plan to put your ideas into action immediately as and when the mind begins to play tricks again. Please tell me how I can keep in touch with you, for further advice.
