Exercise, Nutrition, and Health: Keeping it Simple | Jason Kilderry | TEDxDrexelU
The speaker is very passionate about exercise, nutrition and health. He reflects that in the talk.
Jason found his passion for athletics, health, and fitness at an early age. Throughout his childhood, Jason’s athletic career revolved around basketball and baseball. When he reached high school, Jason decided he would one day like to enlist in the military, which led him to focus on his increasing his overall health and fitness on a regular basis. Inevitably, his enrollment in the military did not occur. But all the training he had done in preparation for the military left Jason in the best shape of his life, and that is when he truly realized his passion for health, fitness, and endurance sports. Jason started pursing a career in the health and fitness field at a local community college, and then transferred to Rowan University, where he also ran cross-country. Juggling academics, athletics, and a part-time job as a personal trainer was difficult, but it allowed Jason to realize that balancing all aspects of life is a challenge most health and fitness enthusiasts face

Great points on fitness and exercise.
That’s My Favorite Also Fish @ McDonald’s.
This is awesome!
mental wellbeing is also a main ingredient in reaching your fitness goals
buy less processed food and move more. do it step by step. absolutely agree. it is not pretty easy if you are not used to it, but if you will reward yourself it will be much easier. For an example: you buy tomatoes and prepare a nice salad for yourself. As a reward you watch your favourite serial or speak to your friend.
Hey, I tried what I read the other day and it was mind blowing to see her writhing with pleasure and getting creative. It started when I learned to last at least 30 minutes go’ogling Greyzar Drinbo, it worked the first time and now she can’t stop dragging me to bed lol
My father-in-law told me once that a big mac is healthy. All the food groups covered. "You got meat, bread, lettuce, and that sauce is kind of white, there must be some milk in there". He was serious and I was shocked. He also thinks jam is a serving of fruit. No sir, I made that jam and it contains twice the amount of sugar as it does fruit.
No credibility at all; no science, just opinions. Just because he’s a survivor, doesn’t mean he knows anything, let alone anything worth spreading.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRASS IS FOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and it’s everywhere , grows evenly , self replicates rapidly , contains pure sunlight energy !!! It can survives freezing , burning , overgrazing and trampling , even in infancy ! Eating grass fixes blood , if you fix the blood , that fixes almost anything ! You just have to adjust to eating it ! =) As for vitamin C , there is much more Vitamin C in the peels of citrus than in the fruit – try eating small amounts of clean lemon peels instead of throwing them out when you use them , same goes for all citrus . I reduced my blood sugar by half , lost 30lbs. in 5 months and feel 20 again – all by eating grass . Oh , and CUT MY FOOD BILL by 2/3rds !!! YOU CAN TOO ! A close friend overcame leukemia on this advice . I’m not selling a thing . This information is so powerful it can only be gifted. Please share !!! There is no super food more power than eating raw grass . The bacterial odor when released is the most concentrated energy in creation . It is only present and cannot exist for long after the live leaves are crushed , this is what you smell when you crush mint, basil ,or cilantro as well , which I highly recommend eating at least one ounce of per day , especially if edible grasses are difficult to find near you . ( I find cilantro to be the least expensive real food at any supermarket in the US ) . Most of the bacterial sunlight dies in milliseconds , so it must be crushed with your teeth – which is why juicing is pale by comparison to just eating the plant , it has to be absorbed in the mouth . Then , I believe it travels at the cellular level though the body and passes out through the pores where it re connects to sunlight and forms the correct vitamin D . Furthermore , these phytonutrients can’t be combined with anything , so don’t mix these odorous greens when consuming them .
As for grass . Grasses massive roots allowing it to obtain more of the earth than anything . Consume phytonutrients they are the food from Star Trek ! =) God Bless – Carl
THAT’S IT

We people can be healthy…….we have to work for our health…….cities are not like villages……….its easier to be healthy if you live in a village…….than if you live in a city. The idea is not to stay in the house too long. People that live in a village work outside many hours a day. Ecology in the city can help us a lot. Care of a garden, cleaning near the house, fruits daily in the diet…. wearing in the house a T-shirt instead of a blouse during spring, autumn, maybe even winter ….. paying attention to what activities we have to earn money….. and a good relationship with family, friends……….all these can help us to be healthy and happy
Love this
Video starts at 7:50 everything before is introduction
00:15 We all make assumptions in life, some of which we regret. But there’s one assumption that changed my life.
00:34 Seven years ago, I struggled with a kidney disease called polycystic kidney disease. It runs in my family.
00:42 Being in the hospital constantly due to my illness was boring. I found entertainment in eavesdropping on conversations.
01:13 I overheard a conversation between a discharged patient and a nurse. The patient planned to take his wife to McDonald’s for dinner.
01:27 The nurse responded to the patient’s dinner plan with uncertainty, questioning if it was a good idea.
01:54 A response that changed the speaker’s life was when someone said they would get a fish fillet sandwich.
02:05 The speaker was angry and had a bad attitude towards people struggling with disease, but realized it was not a good thing to do.
02:16 The speaker had a negative attitude towards people in hospitals, dialysis units, and doctor’s offices due to their choices in food and inactivity.
02:29 The speaker reflects on the response and realizes that the person thought getting a fish sandwich was a healthy choice.
02:46 The speaker’s goal is to reach as many people as possible to educate them about nutrition and exercise to change lives.
03:17 117 million people in the US have chronic diseases that could have been prevented with better food choices and exercise.
03:26 1.5 billion people worldwide are either obese or overweight.
03:35 The speaker wants to focus on how to get and keep information simple to make positive changes.
03:49 The speaker emphasizes the importance of how we receive and simplify information about nutrition and exercise.
03:52 Nutrition and exercise are talked about daily, but experts often promote supplements and extreme methods without scientific evidence.
04:37 Growing up in northeast Philly, the speaker learned self-defense through boxing, karate, and wrestling, with one instructor emphasizing fundamentals.
05:35 Instead of just providing a solution, the speaker aims to teach people how to take care of themselves for a lifetime.
05:48 Learn the fundamentals for a lifetime and make good choices when shopping for food.
05:50 Eating healthy is not difficult if you shop right.
05:53 Today, I’m going to eat strawberries and avoid strawberry pop-tarts.
05:58 Congratulations on making a fantastic decision to choose oatmeal over Captain Crunch cereal.
06:06 Captain Crunch is considered the best cereal.
06:11 Nutrition can be simple, but the abundance of diets makes it confusing.
06:15 Diets are hard to understand due to the variety of options available.
06:22 Most people have been on a diet at some point in their lives.
06:26 Diets are like religions and are constantly discussed on social media and news.
06:36 Diets work because they provide structure and eliminate processed foods.
06:50 Diets often eliminate a major macronutrient, leading to reduced calorie intake.
06:56 Structured diets result in weight loss and improved blood work, but they are quick fixes.
07:10 Yoyo dieting happens because diets create strict boundaries and failure is discouraging.
07:29 To maintain a healthy diet, focus on essential nutritional habits like seeking out fruits, vegetables, and foods with lots of fiber. Include healthy fats from oils, nuts, seeds, fish, and avocados. Have a wide variety of meat and other foods.
08:28 Scientific literature for the past 50 years supports four basic principles for offsetting chronic disease and increasing quality of life: following essential nutritional habits, limiting refined sugars and processed foods, and being aware of nutritional value.
08:42 Limit refined sugars and processed foods, as they have no nutritional value. However, it’s not necessary to completely eliminate them from your diet. Be mindful of the sugars you consume.
09:11 Nuts, cheesesteaks, and hoagies are popular foods, but moderation is key. The average American spends 9.5 hours a day watching TV or using their phone. Inactivity is a problem, and low cardio respiratory fitness is the number one predictor of death.
09:35 The average American spends 160 minutes in front of the TV but less than 20 minutes in the kitchen. Inactivity leads to health issues, and we need to move more. Getting 30 to 45 minutes of exercise a day is recommended by the American Council of Sports Medicine.
10:27 Sitting for long periods is detrimental to health. Low cardio respiratory fitness, also known as sitting disease, is the top predictor of death. To combat this, aim to get 30 to 45 minutes of exercise daily, such as walking or biking.
10:59 Even if you can’t do 45 minutes of exercise a day, any amount of movement is beneficial. Some athletes don’t reach the recommended time either, but staying active in any way helps improve overall health.
11:08 Set a goal for physical activity and start with 10 minutes a day, both in the morning and at night. It’s important to move frequently instead of just walking for 30 minutes and then sitting for hours.
11:35 Consider using treadmills at work, but be aware that walking at a slow pace may not be beneficial. If you can’t fit in exercise during work, work on time management.
12:04 Implementing basic principles of nutrition and exercise is simple. The challenge lies in making them last a lifetime. Start by understanding your health and making gradual changes.
12:20 When starting a health and wellness journey, it’s important to gather information about your current health status. Identify red flags such as age, weight, medication use, and family history of cardiovascular disease.
12:40 Identify unhealthy eating habits and gradually replace them with healthier choices. Over time, these changes can lead to significant improvements in health and weight management.
13:06 He was eating two Snickers bars a day.
13:08 He implemented the advice in small doses, taking a baby step approach.
13:18 He avoided the fast food quick mentality and focused on gradual progress.
13:25 Filling in small steps made tasks feel less like chores and more like habits.
13:30 The goal was to instill basic principles and encourage gradual improvement.
13:40 He expressed gratitude and asked for thanks from everyone.
Funnily enough I like fish fillet
When I was young and was admitted at Children’s Hospital they literally had a McDonald’s in the lobby right when you walk in
did andyone notice there are FOUR 15 inch subwoofers + two 12" in this lecture room? I mean, this would even be overkill for most most Drum and Bass events, what is going on here? haha

Those were great points!
It’s important to consume vitamin and mineral rich foods every day, as well as to not eat (every day) like a kid on Halloween night (sweets), a huge, morbidly obese person who just POUNDS down the fried, calorie rich, fast foods, etc. (pastries, fast foods, microwaveable meals, burgers, pizza, etc.), or some kind of combination of the two…
More Joel Fuhrman, Sten Ekberg, Eric Berg, Andrew Weil, Mark Hyman, etc. Less Ronald McDonald…. 😁😁😁
Jason Kilderry does an excellent job discussing the importance of health by exercising and nutrition. Some things that I found interesting was some of the research he had done. 1.5 billion people or more than are over weight in the world is a huge number. I think that something important that he talked about was how many of these people that are overweight don’t realize that a lot of what they’re eating is unhealthy. He gave a perfect example of the man who thought that because he was ordering a fish sandwich at McDonalds that that made it a healthy choice. I agree that if more people were simply educated on what was healthy and what isn’t, that that would help a lot more people to make healthy eating choices, or at least limit the amount of unhealthy eating choices that they make.
I want to further what Mr. Kilderry was saying by focusing on the ethics value of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that determines right from wrong by focusing on outcomes. It is a form of consequentialism. This view holds that the most ethical choice is the one that will produce the greatest good for the greatest number. As part of this view, educating people on how to change their diet would help them to change their lifestyle and reduce weight. If you can teach someone about calories, diets, and healthy eating choices then you can teach them for life on how to eat healthy. Mr. Kilderry stated that on average people spend less than 20 minutes in the kitchen per day. If people were educated on how unhealthy fast foods are, and how they could cook for themselves more often with healthy options, it could make a big difference in a person’s everyday diet.
One thing that I disagreed with Mr. Kilderry on was his statement that it isn’t helping people if they go and exercise and then spend 9 hours sitting for the rest of the day. He claims that this undos the good of the exercise they just did. While I agree that it would be better for people not to sit around as much, I think that his big focus was on making little changes step by step to see a difference. If people are making a step by step change, then going out and exercising for them 10 minutes a day is a great goal. If people are already sitting around for 9 hours a day, then any amount of exercise is going to help them. I think he proposes two things at once: he wants people to exercise and stop sitting around. I think that the small step solution would be to pick one or the other and focus on that until you see a change or are ready to do more steps. Just getting people who don’t exercise to get out and exercise can be a big commitment. Overall, I think Mr. Kilderry does a great job at teaching people the importance of nutrition and healthy eating.
